Design Considerations

Mobile ASL Systems

Mobile ASL Systems support all ASL features.

ASL Features

Trailer-based systems are typically customized to meet the unique needs of an operator with the following considerations impacting a unit’s size, design and cost.

  • Student / Passenger seating capacity
  • Heating / Cooling and on-board power requirements
  • Operator and operator customer locations
  • Extra equipment storage needs
  • Other customer requested features
  • Tow vehicle considerations

Van-based systems design and build considerations are similar to those of trailers. They are however, constrained by smaller chassis sizes compared to available trailer options. These constraints can limit some design features such as seating capacity.

Vans do offer the advantage of not requiring a tow vehicle making them generally easier to maneuver and generally more fuel efficient. They can also be configured to tow a small trailer for hauling any extra equipment.

In-house ASL Systems

In-house ASL Systems can support all ASL features with select feature options defined by the operator.

Theater-based systems are necessarily customized to meet the constraints imposed by the operator’s facility with the following considerations impacting a unit’s size, design and cost.

  • Available floor space
  • Student / Passenger seating capacity
  • Entrance, exit and traffic flow patterns
  • Access to room power, ventilation systems and network connections
  • Customer location
  • Other customer requested features

Cabinet-based systems control futuristic Unmanned Space Vehicles (USVs) and are designed to be used by small student teams. They can support some or all ASL features and may be configured as fixed or in-house mobile stations. Like Theater systems, building constraints should be considered when designing a Cabinet system for your facility.
