Frequently Asked Questions
Are programs available for different grades?
Programs have been delivered to kindergartners and to college students, but most programs are designed for middle-school students grades five through eight.
What subjects can be taught using the system?
Corps of Discovery programs are designed to introduce students to various math and science concepts. Activities involving Cartesian coordinates, simple algebra, simple trigonometry and geometry are provided.
The science concepts taught include many of the standards-based questions pertaining to the Solar System. For example students can fly the simulator to Jupiter then use its built-in scientific instruments to determine that Jupiter is a gas giant planet by measuring its size and mass. They can also use the simulator’s instruments to determine the molecular composition of Jupiter’s atmosphere using absorption spectroscopy.
How long does it take to complete a program?
Program timing is flexible and can be tailored to suite your time constraints. Programs for younger students can run as short as 20 minutes. Corps of Discovery camps can be several hours in duration and split up over multiple days.
What would a program cost for my group?
Pricing for ASL and the Corps of Discovery programs depends on the target ages, desired content, program duration and delivery options (on-site or via streaming).
To price a program, please contact us to discuss the details of what would best meet your education goals. We’ll then provide you with a written quote for your consideration.
What do I need for classroom streaming?
All that is needed to receive streams from an ASL simulator is an internet connection with a download speed of approximately 5 Mbs (5 megabits per second) and a display on which to watch the stream.
To support communications from the classroom to an ASL simulator, options are available. For remote locations where internet upload speeds less than 7 Mbps, (insufficient to support streaming) telephone service (cell or land-line) can serve as the class to simulator line of communications.
If internet upload speeds of 7 Mbps or greater are available, then streaming from the classroom to the simulator is possible. In this case, a laptop configured for streaming can be provided then returned at the end of the program.
How much do Advanced Spaceflight Simulators cost?
Frontier Sciences simulators are available in two mobile formats (trailer and van) and two in-facility formats (theater and cabinet) with pricing dependent on format, unit size (seating requirements) and other customer-specific details (e.g. installation and/or delivery location).
Please contact us to discuss a system that would meet your facility’s needs.
