ASL Educational Programs

General Public

General Public programs are delivered using ASL Mobile Trailers, Vans and In-Facility Theater systems.  ASL system software provides operators with a rich feature set and the flexibility to develop and deliver a variety of programs for people of all ages.

A common public program is a simple tour of the Solar System with the operator offering interesting facts on each planet visited while entertaining questions and comments from guests.

Programs can vary in duration.  They can be general in nature or focused on a specific STEM topic such as where life might be found in the Solar System or how planetary motion results in seasonal variations in climate and visible constellations.

ASL simulators also come with a competitive smartQUEST trivia game where those on board score points by identifying a planet based on a set of clues presented on the main view screen.  Once the correct planet is identified, players are flown to that location where more interesting facts are presented.

ASL simulators provide an engaging experience for students and guests of all ages as they are exposed to the wonders of the Solar System.  Programs are dependent primarily on the operator’s level of subject-matter knowledge and on the interests of those on-board the simulator.

Corps of Discovery

All ASL systems are capable of providing standards compliant Corps of Discovery educational programs to K-12 students.  Programs may be delivered on-site or live-streamed to rural and under-served schools.

Corps of Discovery programs for younger students can be as short as 15 minutes.  For older students, program duration can vary depending on the customer’s needs and interests.  A longer duration program can be designed as a story-based mission.  For example our “B4 We Know Where” program ran for 12 hours over a span of four days.

For on-site programs, students typically rotate between sets of simulator and classroom activities with the number of rotations dependent on the seating capacity of the simulator.

Current Corps of Discovery programs with classroom activities are designed for K-8th grade students.  However, many may be adapted to address the needs of students in grades 9 through 12.  The following list identifies program topics and their suggested grade levels:

  • Prominent Constellations (K – 2nd)
  • SmartQUEST Reading (K – 2nd)
  • SmartQUEST Charting (3rd – 4th)
  • SmartQUEST Trivia (5th – 8th)
  • Solar System Tour (K – 8th)
  • Planet Motion, Seasons & 3D Coordinates (3rd – 5th)
  • Molecules and Absorption Spectroscopy (6th – 8th)
  • Systems Engineering – Acceptance Test Plan (5th – 8th)
  • B4 We Know Where (6th – 8th)
  • E2 Life Analysis Lab (New 6th – 8th)
